Tunas Wawasan
Education
is meant for all. Tunas Wawasan gives children from low income families
a chance to excel in their studies.
Tunas Wawasan is a scholarship program
launched in 1997 in collaboration with the Department of Education of
the Federal Territory. Under the program, students from secondary
schools in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur were selected to
receive scholarships to cover their school uniforms, books,
transportation and monthly pocket money. A total of 27 students were
sponsored since 1997.
On April 27th 2001, RMCC expanded the
program nationwide with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education.
Under the expanded program, 2 students from each state are selected
every year to receive the scholarships. The entry level is at Form I.
With the annual intake of 28 new
students a year, it is envisaged that there will be 140 students on this
program by the year 2005. In addition, the expanded program now enables
students to be supported right up to tertiary level. In the signing
ceremony with the Ministry of Education, RMCC President Puan Fadillah
Yakin said that it is logical for RMCC to expand support to the children
to the highest level of education as it is RMCC's objective to offer
less fortunate children the opportunity to be leaders in the community
and a good education is a basic prerequisite.
The
project is expected to cost about RM800,000 by the tenth year of the
program if all the scholarship holders get into institutions of higher
learning.
