About Us
The Ronald McDonald Children's
Charities™ Fund of Malaysia (RMCC) was established in Malaysia in
February 1990. Our main goal has always been to lend a helping hand to
less fortunate children in three main areas: health, education and
social services.
Health
In the area of health, we have reached a milestone with the first
Ronald McDonald House
located at the Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. With the support
of many generous and caring Malaysians, this first "home away from home"
was built in 1999 for families whose children suffer from serious
illnesses and need long term treatment at a hospital.
The Rumah Ronald McDonald HUKM is not
only the first to be built in Malaysia, but it is also the first and
still the only one in the ASEAN region. The House that started
operations in 2001, has housed more than 100 families during its first
year of operation.
The Ronald McDonald House Committee,
provides the leadership and guidance to improve operations and make this
home truly a home away from home. Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan
Malaysia's Welfare Department conducts support group sessions to help
the families through their hardship. Our core of volunteers help the
children and their families make their stay more fun through group
activities.
Education
In the area of education, RMCC started a scholarship program jointly
with the Pertubuhan Wanita-Wanita Islam (PERTIWI) in 1990 to help
children from low-income families through school. In 1997, RMCC started
its own scholarship program called the RMCC
TUNAS WAWASAN. The program was designed to help students with
academic potential from low income families in the Federal Territory of
Kuala Lumpur with their education. This program has now been expanded
nationwide.
Welfare
Every year, RMCC organises functions during festive seasons to enable
the less fortunate children in hospitals and orphanages nationwide enjoy
the festivities that other children take for granted. Donations are also
made throughout the year to help parents meet medical expenses for their
children or to families who have suffered disasters such as a fire or
children who have lost their parents through some catastrophe. |
